A Letter from Mike Heydinger

Last chance to obtain tickets for the All-School Reunion on September 26 and other Homecoming activities. We have room yet, but need to give the caterer a final count by Monday morning. At this late date, if you still wish to attend the dinner dance, just email us to reserve seats or a whole table, and then pay at the door upon your arrival.

The celebration begins with a cocktail hour at 5:00 PM that evening, with the buffet scheduled to begin sometime after 6:00 PM. At the conclusion of the dinner, there will be a short program to honor our various five year reunion classes, and then the music will begin and last as long as you can! The whole evening costs only $24 per person, everything included except your bar bill!

Many have indicated they did not want to commit to attending Saturday until after they learned when OSU would be playing their game against Illinois. The league finally released the time today: a 3:30 starting time on ABC. So we have made arrangements for those attending the reunion to be able to view that part of the game that runs into the reunion. A large screen TV will be in the hall for those who want to sneak a peek.

There is also still room for those wanting to attend the Hall of Fame Banquet on Thursday evening, the 24th. Or maybe you just want to join us at the tail gate party and skull session on Friday evening before the Homecoming Game. Supper begins at 5 PM under the tents next to the gym with the skull session set for 6:30, followed by the alumni and band procession to the field. The evening will conclude at Mulligan’s Pub for a victory celebration.

More details on the whole Homecoming Weekend can be found at our website:
www.HuronHighAlumni.com

If you have already reserved your table or space at any of the other events, we thank you and look forward to seeing you there. If not, don’t hesitate as we really do need counts soon.

Enjoy the continued good weather this fall wherever you are!

All School Reunion - SEPTEMBER!

Hello, Huron grad,

Your Alumni Association is contacting you for two reasons at this time:

First, a reminder that our second All-School Reunion is fast approaching, September 26th, and we want all of our grads, near or far, to have an opportunity to register and enjoy the fun. Since this is Huron’s Bicentennial year, we have opened up the registration to anyone with a connection to Huron to attend. The seats are limited to only 500, a number we exceeded the last time.

The dinner dance on Saturday evening, September 26, is actually the culmination of a whole weekend of Homecoming events including parades, a Hall of Fame Banquet, tail gate party and skull session before the big game with Clyde, and then the post-game celebration out on the Mulligan’s Pub deck. The cost for the All-School evening is only $24 - not bad for a recession year - and includes a Mesenburg pork and chicken dinner with all the trimmings, dessert, music and dancing till midnight, tax, tip and out the door, as they say in the trade. Festivities start with cocktails at 5 PM, dinner at 6:30, followed by a short program and then visiting and dancing as late as you can stand it! Here is a fine opportunity to reconnect with friends, not only from your class but from those above and below yours. Friendships respect no class lines!

Ensure your spot by emailing back us to hold a place, then download, fill out, and mail in the registration form attached above. Round up your classmates, friends, and siblings and register as a group if you like.
Most of the tables seat eight, but we can make up ten-tops if need be.
Spaces are starting to go fast, and we don’t want any of our grads to miss out.

Secondly, this week and next are the culmination of your hometown’s Bicentennial Celebration. Almost every day there will be some activity beginning Friday the 7th with the Rotary Ribs Burn Off and ending with your Association sponsored Oddball Olympics at Huron Memorial Stadium on Sunday the 16th. This Saturday morning is an art show at the Basin and the Great Race Scavenger Hunt, testing how much you know about Huron’s past. Sunday the 8th is the big family birthday bash at the Basin starting at noon, with a community picture taken at 1:15. Tuesday evening at the Nia Center at Kalahari will be the huge auction for the ARTirondack chairs, Huron’s bicentennial public art project. Arrangements have been made so that if you wish to bid from out of town you may do so. View the chairs at the website wwwHuronBicentennial.com and place a bid on eBay.
(Search under ARTirondack Chairs. Click on any chair and scroll under the
picture for instructions.) Then see a film on Huron’s Urban Renewal
project on the 13th at McCormick Auditorium at 7 PM. Friday the 14th begins the wooden boat show weekend, ending with Oddball Olympics on Sunday. If you and your family have not yet signed up for this last family fun day of the summer, there is still time. See the attachment above for details on the areas of town making up the teams and the contact information for all team leaders.

It’s a great time to celebrate being a native Huronite. Do join us for
at least part of the fun, and if you are too far away to make it back, think about us and join us in spirit anyway! Hope the rest of your summer goes well, and do enjoy the upcoming fall season wherever you are.

Celia (Nageotte) Sabol

fsabol@toast.net

My husband, Fred Sabol, and I have been together for 17 years. We live in Huron on Adams Ave., with our Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Sophie. We have a big, very old house, we affectionately refer to as the "money pit".

Our son, Jared Dees, age 28, has a BA from Miami and a M.Ed. from Notre Dame. he is currently Assistant Director for Play Like a Champion Today at ND http://www.playlikeachampion.org/ . He married our wonderful daughter-in law, Jennifer Reed, on June 6, 2008, and our beautiful granddaughter, Adelaide Marie Dees, was born May 24, 2009. Obviously, I am very proud and blessed.

I have been a bookkeeper/legal secretary for the last 12 years. Hollie (Rau) Newton is still my best friend, and she just became a grandmother also - so be forewarned, there will be lots of pictures on Friday night!

The past reunions have been really fun. I have many fond memories of high school and look forward to seeing everyone who can make it.

John Auble

aublejohn@gmail.com

John will be at the reunion! Last reunion he attended was our 5 year reunion. He will be in town for both Friday and Saturday.

John and his wife, Dale, have been married 22 years. They live in New Hampshire. They have 3 children. Cecilia is almost 17 years old and is quite the equestrian. Nathan is 13 and Devin is almost 11.

Both Boys love sports as much as he always did which gave him ample opportunity to coach youth baseball and basketball.

John and his family live happily on 15 acres in New Hampshire where they get a chance to grow their favorite things, play with tractors, listen to the loons, and all the other things the "granite staters" like to do - though he still feels more like an Ohioan.

John has many favorite memories of high school which is hard to pick a few. he tends to think about how lucky he was to grow up with such an incredible group of people like all of you.

The past 30 years? It has been a wild ride and he is looking forward to every new day - thankful that he's a part of it.

John is REALLY looking forward to seeing as many of you as can make it.

Again, we'd love to post any photos from school days up to present.

Please keep this blog in mind. Follow it/post it to your facebook, etc.

What a great way to keep in touch!

Barb (Everett) Slattery

barbslattery@yahoo.com

Barb is married to Tom Slattery and they have 2 children - Alex (18) and Evan (16).

"I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again at the reunion. Thanks for organizing it this time. It is much appreciated! Barb"

I am currently running 4 major tanning salons. Two in Findlay, one in Maumee and one in Perrysburg.

My oldest son, Alex, graduated from SMCCHS this year and was just awarded the gold medal State Champ for Pole Vault and 4th place in the 4 X 100 relay down at the State meet in Columbus.

Our younger son, Evan, will be a junior at SMCC and keeps us busy on the golf and tennis teams. It's been an extremely busy spring, but I'm enjoying every minute of it.

Looking forward to a relaxing summer of boating and entertaining and enjoying life!

Lu Ann Enderle

laenderle@buckeyebank.com

Lu Ann is not married (but is currently looking...)

She earned an associates degree from BGSU, Firelands Campus.

Lu Ann is a Corporate Secretary at Buckeye Community Bank which is a locally owned community bank in Lorain County. She moved to Avon Lake in 2005.

Robert Croll

r1croll@verizon.net

Robert is married to Diana and they have 2 children, Jeffrey (24) and Robyn(22). They have 2 grandchildren - Bo (2) and Ethan (1).

"I have really enjoyed all the past reunions."

"I spent the first twenty years after graduation basically living in Huron, raising two children and working in the maintenance department of the Huron Schools. I married Diana Miller, class of 1971, in 1999 and moved to Berlin Heights. I have enjoyed being part of this community the past ten years. I retired from Huron Schools in 2007 and have been working on a Millionaire's estate in Vermilion Township."

David Gould

mrdavidgould@yahoo.com

David is married to Arleen Mascolo and they live in Trumbull, Conneticut.

Annette (Shahan) Potter

annette_potter@charter.net

"I moved to Tennessee the summer following our junior year. My parents divorced when I was two, and I lived with my Dad and Step Mom ever since. I had had no contact with my birth mother since I was about 8-9, so naturally I was very curious, so my Dad finally let me go down there for a visit. Well let me tell you Tennessee is a beautiful place, nothing like Huron, with hills and mountains and gorgeous views everywhere, but that's not all that made me stay."

"Living with my Mother was different from the home I grew up in as night is to day. I now realize that home wasn't as bad as I thought it was and the grass isn't always greener on the other side. Parents do lots of things out of love. After all, our parents were as new at parenting as I have been in raising two of my own!"

"Either way, living in Huron and in Tennessee has made me who I am today. I am happy with who I am and the life I have. I am married to Tommy Potter. We have been together since I was 19 - yep thats 29 years! We have 2 children together. Amanda is 25 , is married and is a nurse. Jordy is 21 and attending Carson Newman College. Both of my children have been a joy and a blessing to me."

"Tommy and I are self-employed, and have owned an Amusement Machine Business for about 25 years. It let me be able to be a "stay at home" mother. Since my children are now gone and the cost of medical insurance for self employed people is out of sight, I now am happily helping teach in the local Head Start program, and drive a school bus. I truly enjoy children and doing this work is as close to being a teacher as I want to be."

"I am very excited about the reunion and seeing everyone from the great class of '79. I have fond memories of Huron High School. Sadly my sisters, Yolanda Shahan Butler class of 1978 and Vickie Shahan class of 1979 have passed away. They are always just a thought away and missed dearly."

Greg Stein

gregorystein@cox.net

Greg is married to Heidi Biggs and lives in San Diego, California. They have no children and "definately none" when asked about grandchildren.

"Thanks for thinking of me and inviting me to the reunion! I'm looking forward to seeing the class of '79 after 32 years!"

Lee Michaels

"Do you remember sleeping out @ Brenda (Wilford's) and running the rath? Hope this finds you well and happy!"

"Too much has happened in 30 years to ever begin. Lovin life deep in the heart of Texas. Probably not going to make it to this one. Take Care! Lee"

"P.s. If you're or anyone else is really interested - find me on facebook!"

Robin Wexler

robinwex@comcast.net

"I've had so much fun at all the reunions. I'll miss Ricky Earl this time, but I'll enjoy catching up with old friends."

"I still enjoy teaching middle school math and just finished my 25th year. I still love living in the big city. I have great friends and try to enjoy all Atlanta has to offer. I am fortunate to keep up with very close high school friends who I see every summer! Life is pretty good!"

Susan Shamhart aka Pukie the Clown!

boomchicks1@yahoo.com

HI Everyone!
A lot of people don't know about my life after high school...but here goes:

After high school I had this burning desire to be a clown in a carnival. You know, the ones that ride those little small bicycles??? So, yes, your classmate dressed up as a clown and rode the bike around the elephants and all the other carnys. Hey, I saw the US this way, for free! Sure the travel accomodations weren't that exciting - riding in the back of a truck or jumpin onto a moving train - but I was young then.

After about 5 years of shows, greasy carnival food and toothless co-workers - I decided it was time to get a job mom could be honest with when her friends asked how I was doing and...well, she thought that I went to Ohio State University - but I did actually move to Columbus and decided to help out the medical profession by offering my live body as a medical experiment.

There I was - with the lab rats, cats, and vermon. Hey - the pay was good, even though they couldn't guarantee an average life span. Some people earn their college money in less desireable ways - I atleast can say that my college money was earned for the betterment of society!

Yes, I did eventually go to Ohio State. Eventually the nervous twitch stopped that I acquired from the medical experiments.

Actually I have my Master's Degree. And, if you would like to find out more, you will need to come to the reunion and see for yourself!

Love Ya,
Sue

Ellen (Denne) Coffman

ellencoffman@remax.net
www.callellen.com

Hi everyone!
I married Dale Coffman Jan 14, 1989. We have a daughter, Kelli (24). She is engaged and will be getting married next July 10, 2010 and we are just starting the process of planning her wedding. No grandchildren yet - hopefully not too soon - but definately someday!

The best memories I have about our school years is with the Tigerettes. That kept me going and I'm blessed to have made the best of friends through that activity. Every Christmas since our graduation, Sue Shamhart, Brenda (Wilford), Deb (Williams), Lynne (Gilbert), Damita (Deibler), and I have gotten together no matter where we were in the world. We are blessed to have been each other's rocks through marriages, divorces, children, jobs, and all the things that go along with life. Whew - do we have stories we could tell!

In 1985 I got my real estate license and have been selling real estate ever since. In 1993, I obtained my real estate Broker's license and Dale and I purchased our first RE/MAX franchise opening our first office in Sandusky. 1.5 years later we opened our 2nd real estate office in Norwalk. I found that real estate always kept my attention as it's a never ending learning experience and is always a challenge. This past October Dale and I custom built our new Sandusky office building and moved our office to our new location on the corner of E. Perkins Ave. and Sandusky Mall Blvd. (Stop In and See us!) ***p.s. If your children are able to buy a home - have them do it before Dec. 1st this year - they get up to $8,000 FREE MONEY from the government to buy! (Sorry - LOL) That's 1st time homebuyer perks.***

We also own and operate RQR Document Imaging which is a document storage company.

For 10 years I advised the Margaretta Bear Company Drill team and then the Perkins Pirette Drill Team. I was able to choreograph many shows and took both teams to competitions. I also choreographed a couple of school musicals. I'm now retired from this great fun and focusing on real estate and my daughter's wedding.

Kelli graduated from Perkins High School and was the field commander of their band plus was very active in the musicals. She graduated from the University of Akron with a degree in Finance and a minor in Real Estate. She is an accountant at Citizens Bank in Sandusky.

See you soon.
Ellen

Sue (Airhart) Thaxton

airthax@aol.com

Sue married Greg nearly 24 years ago. They have 4 children. Mallory (21), Kelsey (19), Emily (17), and Jay (14). No grandchildren.

"After all these years, I'd like to thank John Auble, Bryan Adler, and Chris Adams for helping this shy 13 year old from Michigan adapt to Huron. I'll always remember homeroom @ McCormick and "Sue Baby"

After high school, I travelled across the US studying and working from 1980 - 1986, finally earning a B.S. in Computer Science. I was with General Electric from 1982 - 1992 then was able to be home with our growing family. Now that two are in college and the empty nest is 4 years away, I'm back in school. If "my plan" is realized, I'll be a nurse by the time I'm 50 - and it's alot of fun the second time around, too.

Frank Brown

indianabrowns@sbcglobal.net

Frank lives in Indianapolis with his wife, Linda. They have 3 children - Rachel (18), Jared (16), and Aaron (10). They have no grandchildren.

"I have attended all the reunions to date and each one has had its own atmosphere and wealth of experiences. Although it's only a weekend, the shared memories are invaluable and cherished for another 5 years.

I have lived in Indianapolis, IN for 23 of those 30 years. After finishing my Master's at Purdue University, I decided to settle in Indiana and raise my family. Iam a contractor working as a business/systems analyst. I have been married to my wife, Linda, for 21 years. My daughter Rachel will be attending Ball State University as a freshman majoring in dance. My son, Jared has autism. Jared is currently working on his Eagle Scout project. Both of my sons are involved in the scouting tradition. "

Deb is married to Kevin Kelly and they have 3 children - Megan (23), Emily (20), and Cameryn (8). She hopes to not have grandchildren for a long while.

Regarding previous reunions and school memories... "I saw Lee Jones on Iron Chef (can we say, WOW!), and he still looks the same as the day he flew my Dad's undies on the flagpole!"

I'm so sorry I can't attend the reunion! We are celebrating Mom and Dad's 50th wedding anniversary on the beach in Hilton head. Peace to you all, and have a great time!

Deb (Pisano) Clemons

I also work full time as an office manager/administrative assistant at Bass Haven Marina in Marblehead. My knowledge of the boating industry and fishing industry goes hand in hand with the Marina/Mobile Home Parks.

Scott Gordon and his family

szgordon@fuse.net

From Scott... "30th Reunion... I suppose it's been that long since I moved away rather suddenly in the summer of '78 as my Dad got a promotion to the Columbus office. So, my senior year was disappointing. After graduating, I moved on to graduate from Miami University and then casually chose Cincinnati to settle in. After several years of a rather simple life in social work, I met my wife to be, Samantha. When we started a family I guess it was time to step up and I went on and got a Masters from Xavier. We now have 3 healthy daughters ages 15, 13, and 10. We've lived in the same city neighborhood for nearly 20 years now.

After moving so much in my early life, I suppose it feels right to settle in and keep things close to home. My wife is dynamic and dives into her interests with abandon. She has been a doula, aquatics guru, and she has home schooled our girls and taken in her 98 year old grandmother from the nursing home. Currently she is an urban bee keeper with her mother and I. We started a small company, "Bee Haven Honey" where we sell "products from the hive". We are selling at Findlay Market in Downtown Cincinnati on weekends.

I loved growing up in Huron and still miss the lake. (I even bought a sail boat after college although there was nowhere to really sail.) I've come to terms with that now, but I will always miss the people and the sense of support and community that I was blessed to know."
